SOLD!!!

Yesterday we closed on our house. We have had it for sell since October 2005. So it has been a year and 2 months. Finally we found a buyer and it closed yesterday.

It is bitter sweet. We are grateful that a year’s worth of prayers have been answered and the house sold. However, this was our first house and a home we shared for three years. It was a great house that allowed us to live in a great neighborhood and reach out to those around us.

We look forward to being able to do some of these same things in a new home. That process will now begin. I want to thank all of you who have prayed for us this past year and 2 months. We have felt your prayers and your thoughts of our well being.

I hope that now you will all rejoice with us in the selling of our home and give God glory and thanks for all that He has done!

Merry Christmas!

I wanted to wish all of those that read this blog a very Merry Christmas! In a year’s time we feel sorrow, grief, suffering, joy, excitement, newness, hope, peace, and love. It is the love of family and friends that brings excitement and joy to holidays. It is hope that brings newness and peace. It is great friends and family that help carry us through sorrows and grief. It is suffering that makes us grow and reach up to God’s almighty hands. It is God that has created us and sustained us. It is His Son that has taught us and washed our sin away. It is Spirit that links us together and leads us through joys and trials of life while giving us what we need for our time and journey through the Kingdom here on earth. We are the people of God, Jesus, Spirit. So may we all breathe in the Spirit of Christ on this holiday where many around the world celebrate the birth of a Savior, the hope of a King, and anticipation of His returning!

Merry Christmas!

Mr. Mercer…Again?

Okay so twice now I have been called “Mr. Mercer” by college students while on campus. When children call me Mr. Mercer it makes my heart warm and grateful that manners are still being taught in the world. When sixth graders call me Mr. Mercer I chuckle inside and wonder how much longer their innocence will last. When High school students call me Mr. Mercer I first swell up with pride thinking how I deserve that kind of respect from them and then when I realize its sarcastic I accept the joke, make a crack about my premature graying, and have a good laugh. However, when college students call me Mr. Mercer I just feel confused and out of place all of the sudden. The first time it happened it was a freshmen in college. However, yesterday it was a senior. I appreciate the act of respect, but then I wonder did he really just say that? Am I too old to be doing graduate work? What did I think of the 30 year old guy taking college classes when I was a young 20 something? Do I look 29? Who was that kid anyway? Where am I? How did I get here? How long have I been sitting here? Did I take my medicine? How come I can’t move as fast anymore? Did I just fall asleep in the middle of the day?

Okay, so maybe I didn’t ask most of those questions. I appreciate the respect, but I don’t feel old, don’t think I look old, so I will just chalk it up to being older than them and that they are extremely respectful beings on this planet.

In fact, I think “Mr. Mercer” is a fine title!
