I am not sure I like my title. I am thinking of something more clever. I am also thinking about bringing my blogger account over to wordpress. Not sure. Just trying this out!

And So the Summer Begins
The official kickoff for our summer is Senior Sunday. That was last Sunday. Now our middle school in-town retreat, Breakthrough, is June 1. It will be a mad dash from now till the end of the summer. It is a great time to build relationships with students. It will be busy and furious and the end will come before we know it. And so the summer begins.

Family
Today Leah’s parents and sister came into town and her aunt and cousin will be here later. They are all staying at our house and its wonderful to have company. It has made me miss my mom, though. She will hopefully come here in the summer. I love being around family and sharing special moments together. Leah’s cousin Jon is graduating from ACU and mother’s day is Sunday and Leah’s birthday on Monday. So we are getting all our special occasions in at one time. In the past I have been able to spend Mother’s Day with my mom, but that is pretty difficult to do when you’re a minister. This year it will be a phone call and a pre-sent card.
Family is important, especially for a minister. It is important to be with your spouse and children. It’s important to be with parents, siblings, grandparents, and in-laws. When your physical family can’t be around it’s important to have a strong church family. It is crucial to have people who know you well and love you despite your faults. Whether its physical family, other ministry staff, a small group or care group, or close friends we all need those we can be real with and lean on and laugh with. This is the power of God.
I wouldn’t mind seeing how many of you know me well. Take this Quiz about me, it will be fun.

Refresh
It doesn’t take much for me to be refreshed. A good book, finishing a final, prayer time, or even a good conversation with an old friend. Today I had the opportunity to catch up with one of my best friends. Sean and I have worked in ministry together for six years before I came here and even now get the opportunity to occasionally do some stuff together. Today, I was refreshed by our phone conversation. It almost felt like I was in the room as we talked about life, ministry, school, and church. It was great to have a mutual laugh together and feel safe to say what’s on my mind. I don’t have tons of friends like this, but Sean is one of them and I am grateful for God having placed him in my life. I can’t wait until we are at Kadesh Life Camp together at the end of the summer.
One thing a minister cannot afford to be without is a good close friend. Sometimes in ministry you need to vent, sometimes ponder, and sometimes laugh. Being a lone ranger robs you of the gift God has in good friends. I was so blessed today and I hope as you read this you think of the friends in your own life that refresh your soul.
